Corporate Parking Programs

Ruth Goodwin

Finding parking is a headache. Who actually likes having to find a place to park when they are driving into the office? The answer is no one!

In an ideal world, every employee would have their own designated parking space that is theirs to park in when they arrive to work. Unfortunately, this isn’t the reality for most people. Often, individuals are tasked with securing their own spaces while companies aren’t aware of secure and affordable corporate parking programs. However, this can easily be fixed by looking in the right places and working with the right people.

What is a corporate parking program?

A corporate parking program typically consists of monthly parking spaces set up by the company so that their employees have designated spaces to park in when they commute into the office.

Cheaper and Easier

A common reason why companies don’t have corporate parking programs in place is because they rely on daily parking. Many companies think daily parking is easier because the employees only have to pay for the days they are in the office, however, it’s actually more of a headache to manage from an administrative perspective. Keeping receipts, tickets and having to submit them to the respective colleague for reimbursement is a nuisance. Opting for a monthly corporate parking program eliminates that by simply charging the parker or employer a flat monthly rate. Additionally, if you’re paying a flat daily rate for a month, it’s almost always more expensive than having paid for a month upfront.

Not only is paying for a month upfront cheaper and easier, it’s often the case that you and your company will receive a discounted rate due to the number of parkers your company can bring in for the lot. Why not leverage the size of your company and receive a discounted rate for ‘renting in bulk’. Think of it like a restaurant buying a bunch of steaks from a meat supplier, the meat supplier will give discounts to the restaurant for buying a larger quantity.

Improved Employee Morale

Corporate parking programs are also a proven and effective perk which could lead to higher employee retention rates and hiring rates.

Parking can be a deal breaker for many when considering a job. In fact, according to Carsurance, the commute is the deciding factor for 63% of job seekers. By having a corporate parking program, you can differentiate yourself from other companies when hiring which means you’re that much more likely to acquire talented individuals.

Another interesting fact is that 20 additional minutes of commute makes employees as unhappy as a 19% pay cut, so having a reliable corporate parking program not only reduces commute time, but it can make them as happy as providing additional pay!

Corporate parking programs exist, they make everyone’s day-to-day day a little less stressful, so talk to your colleagues and get the adequate program set up so you don’t have to worry about parking.
