Data centers are booming, driven by growing demand in cloud operations from all the applications, services, and cloud-hosted data in the market. With the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence (AI), we can expect the demand for data centers to grow even further.

According to Precedence Research, the global data center market is valued at $386.71 billion in 2025. This market is projected to reach $1.00865 trillion by 2034, growing at an 11.24% compound annual growth rate (CAGR).

Meeting this demand requires experienced contractors who can deliver large-scale, complex facilities on tight timelines. One name is leading the charge: HITT Contracting.

HITT Contracting is one of the largest general contractors in the United States, with a reported revenue of $5.6 billion as of 2023. As part of their portfolio of construction projects, they’ve taken on massive data center projects. HITT is leading the industry as they are currently ranked #1 in US data center construction by Engineering News-Record.

The Challenge of Finding Off-Site Parking

When HITT Contracting started planning a new data center project in November 2024, they knew parking logistics would play a key role in adhering to project timelines.

One of their top considerations was the proximity to the construction site. This would make their work operations more efficient as it would also reduce the overall shuttle commute times of their subcontractors, ensuring workers arrive on time.

The project would begin with needing off-site parking for about 50 workers, but by the summer of 2025, that number would grow to over 300. They needed a parking solution flexible enough that could scale with their needs over the next 12+ months—and they needed it fast. The process of identifying, negotiating, and ultimately leasing suitable off-site parking areas is often very time-consuming and stressful, which WhereiPark helped solve.

“Having worked with the project manager before, we understood their priorities right away,” says Joshua Eisen, the Chief Revenue Officer at WhereiPark.

“We knew they needed parking that could grow with the project while staying within budget. Our team was ready to make it happen,” he added.

The Importance of Off-Site Parking for Data Center Construction Projects

Data centers are typically large-scale projects, and with that comes the need for significant human labor.

But with every worker comes the consideration of parking. Here are some of the reasons why big projects like data center construction would need off-site parking:

  • Limited on-site space: Data center projects require extensive staging areas for mechanical equipment, generators, chillers, and other materials. In addition, data centers themselves often consume the majority of the land they’re built on, with minimal parking required for the operations once complete. With a lot going on at the actual site, it leaves little to no room for subcontractor vehicle parking.
  • Security protocols: Given the sensitive nature of data center operations, especially those supporting cloud infrastructure, government, or financial data, there are strict access controls on the site. Limiting the vehicle traffic on-site can help keep a more secure and controlled entryway.
  • High volume of subcontractors: Due to the scale of data center projects, there are often hundreds and sometimes thousands of workers on-site every day across different functions. The actual site layout is not designed to support this volume of vehicles, especially during the peak construction phases.
  • Lack of nearby parking: With a high volume of subcontractors involved, suitable parking options across the street or within walking distance can be difficult to find, or not an option at all.

Matching Off-Site Parking Needs With Existing Spaces

HITT’s project manager, familiar with WhereiPark from a previous nearby project, reached out for help with this new data center build. WhereiPark tapped into its existing network and secured parking at a location the client already knew and trusted.

WhereiPark sourced 385 parking spots for their construction team. A significant discount was also worked out on the standard monthly rate, giving them a cost-effective solution compared to individual parking rates available to the public.

This familiarity made it easy for HITT to get started without any hiccups and gave them the confidence in the parking lot’s reliability. WhereiPark has been able to replicate this for many other project managers and job sites that HITT is working on.

As a result, over 5,000 parking spaces have been sourced for HITT Contracting projects to date since working with WhereiPark in 2020. Thanks to continued success, this number is steadily growing due to demand across diverse markets, including Northern Virginia, Iowa, Ohio, and Oregon.

“This shows how practical parking solutions can make all the difference for construction teams juggling tight timelines and growing crews. Sometimes, it’s the seemingly small things like parking that help keep a big project moving forward,” Mr. Eisen concluded.
